Lisa Sorrell, cowboy boot maker

Brittney is pegging her boot soles today. She almost got sent home for wearing an orange OSU shirt in my shop but I decided I could be tolerant. Bless her heart.

My student Brittney stitched the soles on her cowboy boots. The Curved Needle is an extremely difficult machine to learn and she did a fantastic job. I’m trying to decide if she’s unusually talented or if I’m an exceptional teacher.

In the foreground is my student Brittney working on the boots she’s learning to make. That’s my daughter Paige in the background at the second finisher. She just started a pair of shoes for her grandma.

Rebecca finished her boots, or at least she got as far as we planned for this class. She’s training as a shoemaker in Germany so she has the skills to complete the boots after she gets back home. She’ll have the nicest cowboy boots in all of Germany!

Rebecca has all of the colored pieces glued into her boot tops and is punching the center hole for the flowers.

This was the first pair of cowboy boots I ever had, made by my old mentor Jay Griffith. I inlaid and stitched the boot tops. I redid the design for Rebecca’s boots because I wanted it to be her first pair of cowboy boots also.

My student this week is Rebecca. She’s training to be a shoemaker in Germany and is here for an inlay/overlay class. Since she’s already a shoemaker her project is a set of boot tops which she’ll be able to take home and make into boots. The paper piece is her boot top pattern, the blue leather will be her boot tops, and the smaller pieces are for the inlay and overlay design.
