I’m getting ready to start a pair of boot tops that will have multiple rows of my new silk thread. I called Paige in to help with color selection. She has a really good eye for color.

There are only two openings left in the leather inlay/overlay class I’ll be teaching at the Penland School of Craft, April 19-25. If you’re thinking about attending you should make your reservation soon! The last time I taught the class sold out and I had 30 people on the wait list.

Leather Inlay/Overlay Class

We have a visitor in the shop, and Paige is demonstrating lasting a shoe.

I got a shipment of Baker Leather this morning. It smells so good!

Paige is inseaming a shoe this morning and I’m already thinking about lunch. I said, “Why don’t you see if you can get half of it done before noon?” With a look of extreme hurt she said, “I’m a good inseamer! I can finish before lunch!”

This is just what I want to see. It’s sitting straight and level with the correct heel height and toe spring.

Isn’t this lovely? I think a freshly welted boot or shoe is just beautiful.

This is all size D silk thread. Morgan got started on organizing it and I finished the job yesterday. I don’t have it on the web site yet and honestly I have no idea when that will happen, but it’s $20 for a 4 ounce spool. It’s all been properly stored and is in great condition. I have several colors like chocolate and gray in LARGE quantities. Those are $45 for a box of three 4 ounce spools and they’ll come in the original box, which is collectible. Oh, and if you order multiple spools I’ll put them in original boxes and sell them for $50 for three spools.

Boot number two is on the last. I can’t remember when I’ve had such an easy day of lasting boots. Perhaps lasting goes better when I’m not already exhausted and eager to go home for the day.

My job for today is to put two pairs of boots on the last. I have one pair done and they lasted beautifully!
